On November 1st, 2009, the first 25 trees in the Luthergarten were adopted. Bishop Maria Jepsen (center, reading the selected Bible verse, next to the Director of the LWF Center Wittenberg, Pastor Hans W. Kasch, and a student of the Protestant Elementary School in Wittenberg) planted a field maple tree on behalf of the North Elbian Evangelical Lutheran Church, Germany.
