Planting in the Luther Garden :

On October 14th, 2016, Pastor Wilfried Seeger (right, with spade, shoveling the soil) and Pastor Ralf Neukirchen (left, watering the tree), accompanied by members of the governing bodies of both congregations, planted a sweetgum tree on behalf of the Evangelical Congregation Cologne - New Town and the Catholic Congregation Hl. John XXIII, Cologne, Germany, who are connected through the ecumenical Emmaus circle.

Planting the partner tree :

On November 13th, 2016, during a church dedication ceremony on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Church of the Transfiguration of Christ in Heimersdorf, an apple tree was planted in both Cologne congregations as partner tree on the grounds of their day care centers. The tree plantings were celebrated ecumenically, with Protestant and Catholic members of the Emmaus circle, during a parish festival after Mass around the bell tower in Cologne-Heimersdorf.
